The FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification 22000) is a standard for ensuring food safety in the production of food.
FSSC 22000 combines the requirements of ISO 22000, Food Safety Management Systems, with preventive programs from the ISO/TS 22002 series of technical specifications (food manufacturing, mass catering, agriculture, food packaging manufacturing, feed and pet food manufacturing) or PAS 221 (food retailing) or NTA 8059 (transportation and storage), and some additional requirements.
FSSC 22000 has been recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) as equivalent to the other approved procedures (such as the International Featured Standard and the British Retail Consortium standard).
This ensures wide acceptance by all parties involved in the food chain.
The advantage over e.g. the IFS is that the FSSC is based on an ISO standard and is not owned by an interest group.
This guarantees an independent procedure.
